Reliance Jio applied for license to provide connectivity during flight

Reliance Jio Infocom has applied to the Department of Telecom for connectivity license during the flight. After licensing, service providers will be able to provide connectivity and data services to Indian and foreign airlines. Sources familiar with the developments have informed ‘PTI-language’ that apart from Geo, the Department of Telecommunications has received applications from other companies, including Orts Communications, Station Satcom and Cloud Cast Digital.

However, Reliance Jio refused to answer the questions sent in this regard. Sources said that the Department of Telecommunication has sought clarifications from applicants in some cases, including Ortus Communication.

It is worth noting that in December last year, the government had notified the guidelines for mobile phone services in the Indian Air Sector along with the flying services in the Indian airspace. After this Bharti Airtel Hugs Communication India and Tatanet Services applied for a license attached to it.

So far, Hugs Communications India and Tatanet Services and Bharti Airtel subsidiary Indo Teleports Ltd have got the license of these services.
